St. Louis Panhellenic Receives Two Awards from NPC

The National Panhellenic Conference (NPC), one of the nation’s largest advocacy organizations for women, has recognized top Alumnae Panhellenic groups for service to community and sorority. In Missouri, the St. Louis Panhellenic Alumnae Association was recognized with a Citation of Merit award and the Programming Excellence for their efforts to award $10,000 in scholarships over the past two years to sorority women from the St. Louis Metro area. Each month over 35 local sorority alumnae women gather to plan their fundraisers and annual scholarship luncheon plus select scholarship winners. The association also attends college fairs to talk to students about “Going Greek”.
According to NPC’s most current data, there are 197 Alumnae Panhellenics. In the past year, community-based alumnae groups have collectively:
- Donated 53,394 hours to community service;
- Raised $438,757 for undergraduate scholarships;
- Awarded 412 scholarships;
- And contributed $84,247 to community causes.
“We’re recognizing alumnae organizations for continuing excellence and service they provide in their communities and to sorority women in college,” said Nicki Meneley,
executive director of the conference.

$10,000 in Scholarships Awarded
The St. Louis Panhellenic Alumnae Association announced their 2013 scholarship recipients at their April, 2013 meeting. This year the association voted to award $10,000 in scholarship money thanks to their generous delegates, member sororities and past delegates. Scholarship money is raised through donations from members sororities and their annual fundraiser, Ladies’ Night Out Scholarship Boutique that was held April 18, 2013.
All scholarship winners will be recognized at the St. Louis Alumnae Panhellenic Scholarship Luncheon on May 18th at Greenbriar Country Club. Additional details available at stlpanhellenic.org/scholarships.
2013 Undergraduate Scholarship Winners
- Kelsey Strauss, a Sigma Kappa and a freshman at Missouri State University. Her expected degree is in Fashion Merchandising and she graduated from Warrenton H.S.
Kristen Holmes, a Zeta Tau Alpha and sophomore at Rockhurst University. Kristen is working on her BS in Nursing and graduated from Rosati-Kain high school.
Natalie Lipic, a sophomore at Mizzou. Her expected degree is Masters of Occupational Therapy and she is a graduate of Cor Jesu Academy.
Elaine Smith, a Kappa Delta and sophomore at MO Univ. of Science/Tech. Elaine is working on an Engineering Management degree and graduated from Fort Zumwalt South.
Kathleen Hammond, a Sigma Kappa and a junior at University of Central Missouri. Kathleen is a Psychology major and graduated from Rosati-Kain.
Abby Keeven, a Delta Gamma and junior at St. Louis University. She is earning her BS in Business Administration and a graduate of St. Joseph’s Academy.
Theresa Mullineaux, a Kappa Delta and a junior at University of Missouri. She is studying Finance & Banking and is a Pattonville High School graduate.
Amanda Rhodes, a Alpha Chi Omega and a junior at University of Missouri. Amanda is a dual bachelors/masters major in Accountancy and a Parkway Central High School graduate.
2013 Graduate Scholarship Winners
Mary Laethem is a Delta Gamma who is earning her Doctorate of Physical Therapy at St. Louis University.
Natalie Stone is an Alpha Chi Omega who is working on her MS in Student Personnel Administration at St. Louis University.

Pictures from the 2013 Scholarship Luncheon
STL Alumnae Panhellenic hosted the Presidents Meeting, Sunday, February 24, 2013. Vice-President, Ami Boehlje, lead discussion among eighteen sorority presidents and members of the STL Executive Board. The primary focus of this meeting was membership development. Other topics included Saint Louis area trivia night programs and procedures utilized for “slating officers”. The topic, a “Panhellenic Tea”, was introduced. This program would target graduating seniors planning to participate in recruitment in either the fall or the spring semester of their freshmen year. The concept received initial support. Ideas presented at this meeting will be summarized and distributed at a future date.
Members of the Gavel Club, Presidents of St. Louis Alumnae Clubs, Alternates and Delegates, and representatives of KKG gathered, Sunday, November 4, at the Old Warson Country Club, for the President’s tea. The tea is an annual event hosted by the current President’s sorority, in honor of the current Alumnae Panhellenic President. Marilyn thanked the many participants not only for their
attendance, but also their support throughout the year.
Fall College Fair Chairperson, Elita DeArmoud recently reported that the St. Louis Alumnae Panhellenic participated in four college fairs. Delegates and alternates presented information to students and parents at the Rockwood Schools, Vianney, Parkway North, and a Collaborative College Fair hosted by the Meramac Community College. Brochures and pens from NPC were distributed.
Representatives from the St. Louis Alumnae Panhellenic were present at the opening session of the National Panhellenic Council Convention, Friday, October 26, 2012. Welcome bags were given to the Executive Director, Nicki Meneley, NPC Vice Chairman, Jean Mrasek, and Jane Sutton. A special note has been received thanking the St. Louis Alumnae Panhellenic for their support.
Marilyn Lange, President, St. Louis Alumnae Panhellenic, attended the St. Louis Pi Beta Phi Alumnae Club Philanthropy Brunch on October 18, 2012. At this brunch, Marilyn accepted a $1000 grant from the Sign of the Arrow Foundation. St. Louis Alumnae Panhellenic was one of twenty organizations to receive grants from this group. The St. Louis Alumnae Panhellenic group will use this award to fund at least one scholarship to a Saint Louis high school graduate who attends a Missouri college, and is an active member of a sorority on campus. At the regular monthly meeting, Marilyn presented the check to Laura Smith, scholarship fund treasurer.

The St. Louis Alumnae Panhellenic Association will hold their third annual “Ladies Night Out Scholarship Boutique” on April 26, 2012 from 5:30-8:30 pm at the Meadowbrook Country Club. Over 30 vendors will be on hand for an evening of shopping and socializing with friends. As you have probably heard, the Girl Scouts of Eastern Missouri are celebrating their 100 Year Anniversary THIS YEAR. As part of this celebration, Chesterfield Villas is proud to host their Troop 100 Multi Generational Luncheon on February 20, 2012 (President’s Day).
